The Effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Turkish Economy:Views of Graduate and Doctorate Students
Abstract
Purpose – This study is to determine how Covid-19 affects the Turkish economy with the views of graduate and doctoral students who continue their education at different universities on the Turkish economy
Design/methodology/approach – In the study, graduate and doctoral students were asked about the prepared survey of the Turkish economy and how Covid-19 shaped the Turkish economy by choosing a qualitative research method. In the study, data was collected by obtaining the survey form method. The collected data was examined by content analysis method and the literature was prepared.
Findings – In the survey study, graduate and doctoral students expressed the opinion that the Turkish economy is a developing country and that it will be a better country in future years. In addition, a finding obtained in the analysis of survey data is the opinion that the Turkish economy is in better shape than other countries after the Covid-19 outbreak. However, the opinion that Covid-19 has deeply injured the Turkish economy as it has all over the world, but the early measures taken by Turkey have effectively caused the epidemic to pass very unscathed in the field of economic and social policies has been expressed by the participants.
Originality/value – Our research participants see that it is not realistic to associate the recent price increases with the epidemic, that the Turkish economy will be less affected than many countries after the epidemic, and that the economy will recover early and gain a positive momentum, the pandemic increases unemployment, and the development of e-commerce during the epidemic period is the main positive effect of the pandemic.
